rma is my little rocket - a very sweet, social dog, that is full of speed and passion when working, yet calm, uncomplicated and easy when not - overall a true joy to live and work with. She's very easy to motivate, always instantly ready to go and engage with full speed and passion. Despite that, she's not a fussy, nervous, running-around-and-getting-on-your-nerves-dog at all - when you put on your clothes, she'll stand calmly by the door, not running up the walls and in your feet ... only to explode out of the door, when you crack it - together with the doorframe :D .
While being a very feminine girl, in some ways Irma reminds me more of male dogs - where typical females can react to handler stress, Irma remains unaffected and happily works as normal. Her more stable drive and consistency, as well as her lower sensitivity to working conditions, are also closer to males than typical females.
Irma can be very cooperative and responsive - the fastest of my dogs to usually fly to me at full speed instantly to my first call. Her overall happy, sweet and easy personality makes her seem softer, but in game situations, her high passion and strong inner drive bring out toughness and determination. She's quite unaffected by your anger and not very sensitive to physical interventions. Irma is definitely what we call a "high drive" dog, having her “hunting will/passion” graded maximum 5 points four times and 4 points two times out of six field trial starts last fall - which is not common for a weimaraner at these trials (judges mostly base their views on german pointers), making her average hunting will 4,6 points (there are only 2 other weims in the database with more than three starts (both 4 starts), that have an average above 4,5).
Definitely a dog more on the impulsive side when working, Irma is very quick to make moves and decisions in game situations. Her build, with 61 cm and 28 kg, is also perfect for that. She has a somewhat less typical way of running for a weim, often running into the wind with her head high at full speed, looking a bit more like a german shorthair. Covering ground up to 200-300 meters to one side is no problem; she also works really well in the forest and rough cover - at one trial, she was the the only dog (out of various breeds, including german pointers) that, on her own initiative, went to search in a wet, high sugar beet field for hundreds of meters out from the road I was walking on and kept at it. Irma is spurlaut (giving voice on fresh tracks), has high passion for predators and is quite relentless in those situations, not wanting to give up. Despite passion for predators, Irma is not a sharp dog at all.
In fact, socially she's quite an untypical Weimaraner, having quite low guard instinct (often silent or gives only few barks), she absolutely LOVES all people, especially kids. Walking her in town (we live in the countryside), she notices a strange man, stops, pulls on the leash and whisps her tail, so eager to say hello as if he were someone she knows. She wants to jump into everybody's lap and give them kisses (Irma's unique way includes not only a lick but also a small nibble on your lips if you let her), causing often people to fall in love with her instantly. Combine that with her light, easy, wide and fast run, strong passion and determination in finding game - and you get a dog that makes even fans of other breeds - german pointers, british breeds - come over and comment on how lovely she is. Or say, that while they are not normally fans of weimaraners, they'd take her in an instant. Or mention that they have not seen a weim like her.
Irma loves water, has often the jumping water entries I love and goes to swim around on her own initiative all the time, even in the winter. She is also a very good, natural retriever with a full, calm grip.
For me, Irma is undoubtedly one of the best dogs I have ever had or bred, showcasing many qualities I value and strive for. .
